Good news for the Argentine guanacos! The National Sustainable Management Plan for this species is being reviewed.

In October 2021, the National Directorate of Biodiversity, which depends on the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, began a process to review and update the National Plan for Sustainable Management of Guanaco, whose latest version, approved in 2019, received various criticisms and observations from different sectors. Unlike the previous modification, on this occasion, working groups were developed with representatives of provincial authorities where this species lives, the academic sector and the productive sector, with the aim of reaching consensus through a participatory process.

To date, five working groups have been held in which several members of the Specialist Group on South American Camelids (GECS) participated, who provided knowledge and experience in different aspects related to the sustainable use and conservation of guanacos.
